Life's Inspiration - Chapter 18
“Okay, I should get to work for the day. And you should get some sleep,” Alex said teasingly.
“Alex, it’s the middle of summer and I have nothing to do tomorrow; two AM is hardly a late bedtime. I’ll probably be up for another couple hours at least,” I chided. I had managed to survive finals week and do well in all my classes, and I was enjoying the laziness of my summer break. I’d been staying...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 17
“Will you just ask him out already?” Tasha asked me, exasperated. We were doing homework in my room, and I may have been a little distracted by Alex on Skype chat.
“Tasha, give it a rest already!” I growled back at her. “We’re just friends. That’s it. Nothing more.”
She nodded mockingly, a sarcastic grin on her face. “Uh huh, if you’re just friends, then I’m married to the president. Ever since...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 16
“Do you really think I’m an asshole?”
“Huh?” I asked wittily, keeping my eyes on the road. Alex was in the passenger seat of my car, and we’d been driving for over two hours now. He’d been kind of quiet, but I figured he was just sad that the week was drawing to a close; that’s certainly why I’d been unhappy today.
“Friday, when I woke you up early…You told me I was an asshole.” I hadn’t given...

My Unexpected Hiatus
Sorry for disappearing off the face of Tumblr for like two weeks. I have no excuses. [Though it’s not like I forgot about this story; school just…got away from me…and I haven’t had any time to devote to this. Damn, that’s an excuse, isn’t it?]
I think I’m starting to actually keep up with school work, though, so hopefully some sort of regular updates...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 15
“Kris!” I heard through the fog of sleep. “This is getting ridiculous!”
“Huh?” I asked, confused and still half-dreaming. “What are you talking about?” I opened my eyes to see Alex standing in my doorway – which wasn’t unusual, since he’d continued to wake me up in the same way all week – looking angry; now that was unusual.
“You’ve wasted the whole day sleeping!” It was Friday, the day we’d...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 14
Okay, this is getting ridiculous, I thought as the silence stretched on into the minutes. We had sat down at the table, served the food, and started eating with hardly a word. And it wasn’t the comfortable-but-hungry silence that often fills the dinner table at the start of a meal, it was the awkward-as-hell silence. Suddenly I had an idea to break the quiet. “So, dahhhling,” I said with a fake...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 13
“Zoooooo! It’s time for the zoo!” I woke up abruptly to the sight of Alex bouncing up and down excitedly in my doorway, looking like a kid on Christmas morning. “It’s eight o’clock,” he added, anticipating the question I’d been about to ask. He had woken me in a similar fashion the last two days, and I always asked for the time before anything else.
“The zoo doesn’t even open until ten, you nut!”...

A Few Words About my Posting Schedule
With Katissocoollike, I posted twice a day or more, every day. Which was great, but not exactly feasible for the long run. That was summer, and it was only a week-long project, so I could devote as long as I wanted during that week to my writing.
With my current story, though, it’s tough to get even one post out a day (as evidenced by that three-day gap I just had). Not that anyone wants excuses...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 12
“Wake uppppp!” I heard a far-off voice say. I opened my eyes to see Alex standing over me, grinning. He was fully dressed and his hair appeared to be still damp from the shower. “Come on, sleepyhead! It’s time for breakfast.”
“Mmph,” I responded intelligently. “What time is it?”
“It’s nearly nine o’clock!” The grin was still plastered on his face, wider than ever.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 11
“I still can’t get over the fact that you all drive on the wrong side of the road,” Alex said for at least the third time. We’d been driving for a little over an hour, just chatting casually for most of it.
“Yes, and I’ve formulated a reason for this phenomenon since the first twelve times you’ve commented on it,” I responded wryly.
He laughed at that and we trailed off into silence, both of us...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 10
I got ready quickly the next morning, nervous about meeting Alex and about being late to meet Alex and about my parents meeting Alex…Let’s just say I was nervous. I threw all my stuff into the trunk of my car and got on the road at 7:57 for the thirty-ish minute drive to the airport. Traffic wasn’t terrible – though it wasn’t great, either – so I pulled into the parking lot and stopped the car at...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 9
“Kris!” I looked up from the pile of clothing that I’d been digging through to see Tasha standing in my doorway. By the tone of her voice and the mix of annoyance and amusement in her eyes, I could tell that it wasn’t the first time she’d called my name.
I hit the power button on my stereo and the room fell suddenly silent. “Yes, Tash?” I said, just a hint of desperation in my voice.
“Okay, I...

Hello, Everyone!
I’m back. But I kind of never left…It’s a bit of a long story.
Basically, it turns out I couldn’t take my computer to get fixed on Monday, so I’ve had computer access all week. I haven’t been on, though, because I’ve been super busy with life stuff. But today’s chapter was the last one I had queued, so I’m back working on new chapters now.
The bad news is that I will be taking my computer in...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 8
“So. I’ve decided that you’re going to come visit me,” Alex told me assuredly during a lull in our conversation. “You’re already home from school until January. So just catch a flight into London and stay for a week or two. Your family will hardly even miss you!”
“Why would I want to leave the too-hot, boring Atascadero to go to exciting London?”
“You have a good point…” he said, holding back a...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 7
“So anyway, I showed the painting to my professor and he really liked it. I think it’s the first piece that I can actually use in my final portfolio!” Tasha said excitedly. She, Aaron, and I were lounging around her room on our computers. Supposedly we were doing homework, but mostly we were just talking – a normal Sunday morning for the three of us.
“That’s awesome, Tash!” Aaron replied with a...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 6
A few days later I was up early, working, when I heard the blee-bloop of a Skype message.
Alex Day: Hey, you doing anything right now?
Kris Jacobs: I’m up at nine on a Saturday morning. I’ll give you one guess as to what I’m doing.
Alex Day: Hahaha, take a break from all that writing and video chat with me? :)
Kris Jacobs: For you? Sure. xD
I sat there for a moment, waiting to feel nervous...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 5
Before I could get over my surprise, I got another email. I scanned the subject in disbelief. “Alex Day (@thatalexday) has sent you a direct message on Twitter!” I blinked at the screen a couple times, then scrambled back to Twitter.
“Hey,” his message said. “You win, I couldn’t come up with any more! Great costume, by the way. You’re a big Doctor Who fan? :)”
I paused for a moment, a little...

A Few Updates
Hello!
I just want to say that:
I’ve come up with a name for my newest story, “Life’s Inspiration.” It’s not great - not even that good, really - but better than nothing. Also,
Clearly I’m not updating this story twice a day. Partly because I’m struggling to not-suck at this one, and partly because
Starting tomorrow, I’m going to be without my...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 4
“@companionkris I’ll just grab my sonic screwdriver and be right there!”
I couldn’t stop reading that line, over and over. Alex Day. One of the members of my favorite band. Practically a celebrity – online at least. Whose videos I had been watching for years. Not only acknowledging my existence, but joking about being the Doctor to my TARDIS. Holy shit.
After rereading it for about the hundredth...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 3
I woke up sometime after noon the next day, exhausted but still happy from the night before. Everyone had loved both our costumes, and for once Tasha didn’t get all the attention. There were surprisingly more Whovians at the party than I’d expected, and I even got hit on by a couple nerdy-but-cute boys.
I checked my Facebook and noticed that Tasha had already uploaded the pictures from the night...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 2
“But I was a teenage rebel and that stayed the same!” I yelled along with the song loudly, bobbing my head around with the beat.
I was sitting on the floor of my room with my legs crossed in front of me, a small island amidst the mess of fabrics, paints, and sewing supplies strewn across every inch of bare floor. I had what used to be a plain blue dress draped across my lap, and I was putting the...

Life's Inspiration - Chapter 1!
I can’t remember when I first realized that I was in love with Alex. It was certainly long before I said those three words – you know the ones – that changed everything between us. Perhaps it was the first time I fell asleep in his arms, or maybe even when I first saw his quirky half-smile. All I know is that it snuck up on me, until suddenly I felt I couldn’t live without him.
“Fuck, that sounds...

First off, wow! Thank you all so much for all the great comments on Katissocoollike, and for all the suggestions/challenges for my next story!! [I was kind of terrified that no one would respond and I’d have to give up on my grand scheme before I even started lol]
The overwhelming majority so far has declared that my next theme shall be…

Katissocoollike - Chapter 17
“Hi,” Charlie said awkwardly as he stood outside my door.
“Hey,” I responded – always the witty one. “Do you want to come inside?”
“Sure.” He followed me into the living room, but neither one of us moved to sit down. We just stood around a little awkwardly, not making eye contact.
“So…” I said, breaking the silence.
“Uh. I just wanted to ask you…” he said nervously, stepping toward me a...

Hello!
Hi, there! I’m going to try this thing where I actually talk instead of hiding behind my story for a change. :)
So, where to begin?
How about…Katissocoollike:
Last weekend, I decided that I wanted to try writing some Charlie fanfiction. I didn’t want it to be super long, and I always work better with deadlines, so I decided to challenge myself to write the entire story in one week. I started...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 16
“So, did you tell him?” Alex asked me expectantly as I reemerged into the main room of the flat.
“Not exactly,” I said with a shrug. He glared at me in frustration and I continued. “Listen, could you do me a favor?” He nodded his head. “If Charlie asks you why you went out on that date with me, just tell him the truth, okay?”
“That I went out with you to make him jealous of me and to get the two...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 15
“That. Was. Amazing!” I said breathlessly as we left the pub.
“Absolutely brilliant!” Alex agreed as we started walking home.
Relentless Decade turned out to play mostly rock with some alternative and a little punk mixed in here and there. It was upbeat and intense, and far too loud; we’d spent the entire evening dancing in the middle of the crowd.
“I think I have a bit of a concert-high,” I...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 14
We walked down the street in comfortable silence for a few minutes, until we were hit by a gust of cold wind. “Ack!” I exclaimed wittily, shivering uncontrollably. Alex casually put his arm around me, pulling me close as we continued walking. I struggled inwardly for a minute between enjoying the warmth he was giving me and worrying about giving him the wrong idea. I gently shrugged his arm off of...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 13
I tried to figure out how I felt as I walked back to my flat. On one hand, I was excited about the concert, and glad to have some fun after the intense week I’d had; on the other hand, though, I felt a little bad that Charlie would be left out. And I wasn’t sure what Alex was expecting on this date. I mean, flirting is fun and all, and I loved teasing Alex, but I definitely wasn’t looking for a...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 12
The entire first week of classes passed in much the same way; I spent a couple afternoons at my place and a couple afternoons at the guys’ flat, studying and working late into the night again and again. As I got out of my last class on Friday afternoon, I felt like a great weight had been lifted from my shoulders: two days without classes! Sure, I had tons of work to do, but I had a hell of a lot...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 11
“Uggh,” I groaned pitifully, walking right past Charlie and Alex and flopping face-first onto their couch.
“Good first day?” Alex said mockingly.
“Mrhhm, um arhh evv uh ermm,” I replied wittily, my face pressed into the cushions.
“Really, that good?” Charlie asked with a grin.
“C’mon, Kat. You’re making me jealous. Keep acting like this and I’m gonna have to go to university myself, to see...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 10
I woke up suddenly for the third or fourth time in a row. I stared at my clock, rubbing at my tired eyes, and saw that it was 6:53 – only seven minutes before I had to get out of bed, anyway. No point in going back to sleep now, I grumbled. I hit the switch on my alarm before it could go off and then started getting ready. I showered quickly, nerves jangling around my stomach. “Butterflies” just...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 9
“That’s it, I’m making dinner,” I said, closing my computer with a little more force than necessary.
Charlie looked up from the book he was reading, and Alex straightened up, his head appearing from behind the open door of the refrigerator. They both looked surprised and a little confused.
“Huh?” Alex said wittily.
“All you guys eat is either prepackaged or ordered from a restaurant. Don’t you...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 8
I was walking down the street to their flat about twenty minutes later, whistling tunelessly. It was actually warm and sunny outside, so I’d tossed on my favorite sundress and put my hair up in twin French braids. I guess I hadn’t realized how long my hair was getting; even in braids it extended past my shoulders by a few inches. As I drew near Alex and Charlie’s flat, I saw them standing around...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 7
I grumbled angrily, curling into a tight little ball under my covers and burrowing my head beneath my pillows. “No. I won’t do it, Hank,” I told my stuffed giraffe sternly, crushing him in my arms. “I refuse to get up. I’ll just…lose my job and run out of money and starve to death. But at least I’ll have slept in.” I sighed and sat up. “Yeah, yeah. I know you’re right. Don’t look at me like that,”...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 6
“I sounds like a loony bin out here,” Charlie commented as he walked into the room, chuckling at our crazy behavior. Alex, with his back to the door, leapt practically out of his chair in surprise and abruptly cut off mid-laugh.
“You shouldn’t sneak up on people like that!” He glared at Charlie for a second, but then an evil smile spread across his face. “I can see why you were so excited about...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 5
The door opened after a few seconds to a tall young man with short brown hair and a cocky smile plastered on his face – Alex Day. He greeted me enthusiastically, saying, “Hello, you must be Kat!”
“And you must be Alex!” I countered.
“Ooh, how could you tell?” he asked, trying to seem genuinely surprised. I realized almost immediately that he wouldn’t just put up with my jokes like Charlie had...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 4
Phew. I sat back in my chair for a minute after he left, pensive. I hadn’t spoken more than a word or two to another person in ‘real life’ – and that to cashiers, mostly – for nearly a month; a silence which I broke by having a long conversation with someone whom I used to regard practically as a celebrity. Sure, I’d grown out of the Charlie-craze, but it was still cool to meet him in person. I...

He considered this for another moment before continuing. “Oh. So you do know who I am?” I couldn’t help but let out one small laugh at his utter confusion.
“You mean: Charlie McDonnell, a.k.a. ‘Charlieissocoollike,’ Vlogger and video maker on YouTube, member of Chameleon Circuit, past member of Sons of Admirals and Chartjackers, best friend and flatmate of Alex ‘Nerimon’ Day?” I managed to finish...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 2
A couple hours later, I was on my way out of the flat, dressed in jeans and my Timmy the Monkey t-shirt, and carrying an armful of reusable shopping bags. I set out at a lazy walk, headed for a small market that I’d found only a dozen blocks away. It was overcast but warm out, a beautiful day in June by my standards. I loved walking through the streets and quietly observing the people around me –...

Katissocoollike - Chapter 1
I opened my eyes slowly, reveling in the feel of warm sunlight on my skin. Mmmrhg, I mumbled, rubbing my face and stretching. I glanced at the clock on my bedside table. 9:30 – not bad for a Sunday morning. I sat up slowly, still enjoying the sight of my new bedroom; yeah, I’d been here for nearly a month now, but I still couldn’t get over the fact that it was mine. Sure, I’d had my own room at...
